Children’s Peace Prize Awarded to Chaeli Mycroft

chaeli mycroft wins childrens peace prizeThe 2011 International Children’s Peace Prize has been awarded to Chaeli Mycroft, inspirational icon behind the Chaeli Campaign.

 The Peace Prize, an award initiative run by the Dutch organisation, KidsRights, was awarded by Nobel Peace Laureate Mairead Maguire at a prestigious ceremony in Amsterdam on Monday evening.  It was undoubtedly one of the highlights in the already eventful life of 17-year old Chaeli.  The Chaeli Campaign, which she continues to serve, now employs 20 people and assists more than 300 disabled South African children obtain special-needs equipment, and lead a fuller and more meaningful life.

Speaking after the award Chaeli said, “The message my achievement sends out to children, especially those who are disabled, is, ‘always believe in yourself and know that you have gifts that the world needs’”.

South Africa can be truly proud of her.
